Op 17 mei 2023 promoveerde Ellen Carbo aan de Universiteit van Leiden op haar proefschrift getiteld ‘Metagenomic sequencing in clinical virology: advances in pathogen detection and future prospects’. Het onderzoek werd verricht onder supervisie van promotor prof. dr. A.C.M. Kroes, en co-promotores dr. J.J.C. de Vries en dr. I. Sidorov. In dit artikel worden de belangrijkste bevindingen besproken.
